The approaches and schedule

1. A first meeting with the pupils

First, we will meet the pupils during October-November 2008 before our departure. These meetings will establish a concrete link with our expedition: we will present and discuss our careers, explain the itinerary and our living conditions. During these meetings, we can respond to the first questions of the pupils, so that they can have a good personal feeling about thw expedition.

The main objective is to establish personal contact with students. This first meeting will facilitate their involvement during the project.

2. The blog

Second, students will follow us during our expedition through our blog. Throughout our journey, we will update our blog and describe our living conditions in the field, our feeling about our journey and our geological observations. These observations will be directed so that they illustrate specific points of the curriculum. We will illustrate these observations by photographs and explanatory texts. The geological region's most interesting for students is the volcanic arc of the southern Andes that we will cross between January and March 2009. Thus, teachers will discuss the geology programme during this period.

3. The second meeting with the pupils

Finally, we return to partner schools in October-November 2009, to meet the pupils involved. We will then share our experience of the field: the encounters with local people, a description of the visited localities, our daily lives during this adventure. A selection of photos and films will be projected then. In return, students can ask questions, to understand this journey and this discipline.
